Curacao Travel in 2025: What You Need to Know About the New XCG Coin

Are you going to Curacao in 2025?

Whether it’s your first visit or a sunny return, here’s what you need to know before you land —
Curaçao will get a new currency in 2025: the Caribbean Guilder (XCG).

What will be the new currency of Curacao in 2025?

From July 2025, Curaçao will officially use the Caribbean Guilder (XCG).
The old Netherlands Antillean guilder (ANG) will then no longer be accepted.
So when you visit, you’ll pay in XCG — from local cafes to souvenir shops.

What tourists should know

If you are traveling to Curaçao in 2025, please keep the following in mind:

  • US dollars (USD) are still accepted in many tourist spots, but you will get a better exchange rate in local currency.
  • ATMs on the island now dispense XCG.
  • Use cards for larger purchases, but keep some cash on hand for taxis, local shops, and tipping.

Currency tips for Curaçao in 2025

  • Don’t worry about exchanging before departure. You can easily withdraw money from local ATMs.
  • Check prices and receipts to make sure they are in XCG.
  • Need to exchange USD? Visit an MCB (Maduro & Curiel’s Bank) branch across the island for a safe and easy currency exchange.
